Jeff Hinck

General Partner

“Start-ups are a rough-and-tumble business, and Jeff Hinck has proven to be a steady and insightful investor in the front-end development of my present company, Ampulse, and in navigating the successful exit for my prior company, Picolight.  On either end, the need is for board members who are thoughtful, practical and involved in helping the business, without crossing the line into trying to run the business.  That's a delicate balance; Jeff and EDV get it.” Steve Hane, CEO, Ampulse

Jeff Hinck, a proven technology investor and former start-up company CEO, joined El Dorado Ventures as a General Partner in 2008. Prior to becoming an EDV General Partner, Hinck worked closely with the firm, co-investing with EDV in seven companies, including Compellent Technologies and NuSpeed Internet Systems.

Hinck has been a venture capitalist since 1997, most recently as a Senior Managing Director of Vesbridge Partners (co-managers of St. Paul Venture Capital).

Jeff also served as CEO of Sistina Software, an infrastructure software company acquired by Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), and was an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Co. He was a John M. Olin Fellow in Law & Economics at Harvard Law School, Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy and also taught Statistics at Harvard College.

Jeff's other investments include Algety Telecom (acquired by Corvis for $2 billion), BroadSoft, Compellent (NYSE: CML), iBeam (NASDAQ: IBEM), IPCell (acquired by Cisco for $150 million), iTKO and NetCentrex (acquired by Comverse Technologies for $165 million). Jeff also served on the boards of Picolight (acquired by JDS Uniphase for $115 million) and Endwave (NASDAQ: ENVW).

Jeff graduated with a Bachelors degree in economics from Northwestern University and received his JD from Harvard Law School.
